From Your Host, Katy
Higher Dinnicombe Cottage has recently been renovated following a move to Devon from the Midlands in the summer of 2019. Having owned a smallholding for over 14 years, it was essential when we moved that the location was perfect for the animals, as well as us. Higher Dinnicombe ticks every box. The rolling hills, lush grass and stunning views made it perfect for establishing our new home.
With renovations complete, the smallholding is now established with a small flock of Zwartble and Dutch Spotted Sheep. Lambing takes place in late March, with lambs produced primarily for breeding, and our small flock of chickens provide free range eggs for our guests. As our animals are all in close proximity to the cottage, and due to a rather high maintenance Fox Terrier of our own, we are sadly unable to welcome other dogs. We very much hope that you understand, but young lambs and hens in the back garden can be quite tempting to some dogs!
Over the last couple of years we have restored a beautiful Arch to the front of the holiday let, providing a great area to relax and take in the views across the valley. Our shepherds hut too has been converted into a Champagne and Gin Bar which can be opened on request, offering a vast selection of local gins and a fabulous mixture of flavours.
Our front grounds are available to book for private events, under our umbrella business Dartmouth Events. Obviously this is something that is run when our accommodation is not booked, ensuring that privacy and peace are guaranteed when you holiday.
Over the recent winter we have added a gorgeous 1 bedroom annexe above our garage, The Shepherd’s View, complete with full kitchen, open plan king sized bed, ensuite shower room and sitting area, is completely separate to the cottage and very private, with a tranquil balcony offering the perfect sitting for a sundowner.
My family and I look forward to welcoming you to our smallholding, and hope that you enjoy this most wonderful part of our glorious country, as much as we do. With holidaying in the UK becoming more popular, we will do our utmost to make your stay memorable and a true peaceful rural escape
